Becoming a flower

Dadi Janki asks, "Do we really make attempt to bloom and shine like a flower? Should we not?"

In our daily life, we have a preference for flowers over thorns or even plants and their fruit. Why is it so? What is so special in flowers, while they wither away much faster than a plant or thorns?

A flower is liked and loved for its three inherent qualities. First of all, it is soft, delicate and soothing in touch. One loves its silky petals and even tries to feel its smooth silky surface on one’s face. Secondly, a flower is beautiful and charming to look at irrespective of its colour. We have almost all colours in different flowers and they are loved for their attractiveness. Even a flower of rose has many colours–pink, red, yellow, white etc.

Romantic English poets like Keats and Wordsworth have sung praises of the fragrance of flowers in the lap of nature.

Colours apart, their petals and thickness and arrangement of these petals is a beauty in itself. Last, but not the least, flowers are loved for their fragrance. Almost all flowers can be identified by their fragrance even without looking at them. Romantic English poets like Keats and Wordsworth have sung praises of the fragrance of flowers in the lap of nature.

Flowers maintain all these three features irrespective of the soil and environment in which they grow and bloom. Everyone wants to be soft and charming and full of divine fragrance like the flowers. Naturally it is not for nothing that the writers in every culture and language have compared human beauty and virtues with flowers. A flower is the master creation of nature. As human beings, we also claim to be the crown of creation as God made us in his own image. Right so. But do we make efforts to shine, glow and bloom like a beautiful fragrant rose? Do we really make attempt to bloom and shine like a flower? Should we not?
