Cyber safe or insecurity

Cyber safe or cyber insecurity?

Sister Jenna explains why we should protect our mind and hearts from the chaos of life.

The cyber-attack on Sony Pictures is alarming to many. It raises questions of thievery, censorship and most invasive of all, personal security.

Regardless of the views of right and wrong in this recent attack, we can all agree that the threat to our personal security is serious and one we are not willing to give away. The question for me is where does our security truly reside? If it is within the numbers and titles that define us in cyberspace, in this modern world of total access, yes indeed we are threatened. If instead, we root ourselves to the inner space of goodness and virtues within us, we still have hope.

Our world continues to change drastically, and the pain against nations and each other seems to be increasing daily. The freedoms we once had are gone and the money needed to protect us is outrageous. Perhaps it is now more than ever, that the real issue must shift to ‘How secure do we feel inside?’ What are our greatest valuables? Do they come from materialism and a need to take from another or are they deeper than that? Can we re-connect with the virtues inside of us, and return to a sense of inner security?

The invasion of information is real, and we send blessings to our world leaders who are in the positions to uphold a fading sense of integrity and trust. And, the personal responsibility to do the same is also real. We must each examine our own inner security systems, the ones which will reveal who we really are, and emerge the virtues to the surface, so they can naturally protect our minds and lives. It is our hearts that must never be hacked.
