Place God first to experience a beautiful transformation in your life!

Our connection with God

We all have duties and responsibilities. We must carry them out as well as we can. But let us always carry the thought of our true home and of God with us.

The question was put to Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansa by his disciples. “Swamiji,” they said to him, “You tell us that each of us is alone, that we cannot call anyone our own. Tell us then, how we may live in this world, how we may move with the members of our family?”

Sri Ramakrishna narrated a beautiful parable in answer to their question. “Think of a maidservant – an ayah – who works in the house of a wealthy man. It is her job to care for his children. Her own family, her own children, live far away in her native village. She is working in the city to earn some money for her family. She cares for the master’s children lovingly; she bathes them, feeds them, plays with them and puts them to sleep. She carries the children in her arms, she gently swings them on her lap. But all the while, her thoughts are with her own children, far away in her native village. Conscientiously, she does her duty by the master’s children, but not for a moment does she regard them as her own. And never, ever does she forget her own children.”

Sri Ramakrishna said to his disciples, “We must learn to live in this world, even as the ayah lives in her master’s home and carries out her duty.”

We all have duties and responsibilities. We must carry them out as well as we can. But let us always carry the thought of our true home and of God with us. In the background of our consciousness, let us bear the thought that God alone is ours – and that, except for him, we are all alone.

We live and move in our family circle. We eat with them; we sleep with them; we dwell in their constant presence. But still, we are on our own – God alone is ours, and we are his alone.

Ko Kahu Ko Nahi

Ko Kahu Ko Nahi

Akela, aaya, Akela rawana

Nothing and no one on this earth is yours.

What can we do to keep this awareness alive in our day to day life? There is one golden rule that we must follow – we must give first preference, first place to God in our lives, and to everything else, thereafter. If only we follow this golden precept, a beautiful transformation will be wrought in our lives.
