Who drew the Nazca Lines?
From the ground, Nazca Lines don’t attract any attention. They can’t for their size, as they remain invisible from a close distance. But look down from a hill or a plane, and the giant geoglyphs can leave anyone in awe and shock. The farther one elevates, the clearer it becomes. What may seem like an ordinary pile of rocks and incisions in soil, are the outlines of symmetric and asymmetric figures, the size of Empire State Building. Geoglyphs range from geometric figures such as straight lines, rectangles, and triangles to more definite designs of a hummingbird, a cactus, a whale and other animals and plants.

Between 500 BCE and 500 CE, over 300 figures were carved in the landscape of the Peruvian region, 400 kilometres south of Lima. Nazca Lines were created over 2000 years ago, but it wasn’t until 1926 that Peruvian archaeologist Toribio Mejia Xesspe spotted them from a hill. Soon, the site became a tourist haven, attracting people from all corners of the world. Archaeologists, historians, scientists, theorists, everyone rushed to the Peruvian village to get a glimpse of Nazca Lines, to find an answer to their question—who drew them and why? While the answer is still blowing in the wind, worldwide attention has exposed Nazca Lines to vandalism and negligence. So, to protect and preserve the mysterious lines, they were designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994.
The voyage of Sailing Stones in Death Valley
Death Valley national park in California has a sinister ring to its name. Perhaps, the desert was named after its derelict landscape, where there were no signs of life, just barren soil, tumbleweeds, and hot air. The cracked mud and the boiling sand of Death Valley support no lifeform, but by the looks of the tracks, they seem to breathe life into rocks.

For unknown reasons, the rocks or sailing stones of Death Valley can drift on their own, leaving a trail on the sand. For anyone looking at the sailing stones and their trails, the phenomenon might seem unrealistic. As if, someone has dragged the stone when no one was watching. Even though, the theory sounds realistic, it is not s0. The sailing stones of Death Valley move on their own, with absolutely no human or animal intervention. Perhaps, for the first time in history, simple rocks have set a gold rush in motion, attracting experts from around the world to solve their puzzle.
Klerksdorp Spheres, a marvel of nature or something else?
The Earth was formed around four billion years ago. Cellular life sprung on the blue planet two billion years ago. From here, it took several million years for humans to emerge. It is a unanimously accepted timeline, with proofs and studies to back its authenticity. But, the enigmatic artefacts, Klerksdorp Spheres, have given a reason to various experts to rethink their theory. Estimated to be 2.8 billion years old, Klerksdorp Spheres indicate that human civilisation is as old as the artefacts themselves. As their name suggests, they are spherical in shape, with a belt of concentric grooves around their diameter.

Commonly called “Out-Of-Place Artefacts”, what makes these peculiar and mysterious is their composition. Found in Africa in different colours from blue to shades of red, Klerksdorp Spheres are so meticulously balanced that they baffle scientists and historians alike. Who created these artefacts with such precision at a time when there were hardly any signs of life on Earth? We might never know the answer, but the mystery of Klerksdorp Spheres does raise serious concerns.
Fairy Circles, the mystery of the unblinking eyes
Nature works in mysterious ways. Often, we manage to find our way around these mysteries, but a few of them, are too complex for anyone to understand. The fairy circles of the Namibian desert are one such creation of nature, which has countless folklores and theories but no scientific explanation for its existence. In the desolate region of the Namibian desert, called “The land God made in anger”, strange circular patches, with knee-high grass on the periphery decorate the landscape across 1500 square kilometre.

These craters, called fairy circles, have been canvassing the Namibian desert for centuries. Nothing grows inside them. These hundreds of ‘unblinking eyes’ just stare at the onlookers without revealing their secrets. Even scientists are baffled by the mysterious fairy circles. For decades, experts have studied and conducted experiments in the region to study the strange phenomenon of fairy circles, the results remain inconclusive till date.
