The stars, the planets, the galaxies and everything else in and around them is what we call the universe. The fragmented universe is closely held by intertwined connections. While we are familiar with some, others are lost in the vastness of the universe. For instance, the moon impacts the tides and the tides impact the movement of the wind. Imagine the many other unknown connections we have with the universe. But how do these unknown, sometimes abstract connections manifest? Blind dates end up in lifetime partnerships; an unexpected phone call saves you; opportunities present themselves when you secretly seek change; you spot a good luck charm just when you think you have hit rock bottom.
Sometimes subtle, sometimes seemingly random, at times clear, and at other times obvious, signs from the universe solidify our mystical relationship with the majestic, mysterious universe. Signs are the universe’s way of communicating with us. They are the universe’s uncanny way of guiding us. Deepak Chopra in his book Coincidences: Clues from the Universe says: “Coincidences are not accidents but signals from the universe which can guide us toward our true destiny.”
The universe can’t help us unless we allow it to do so. We need to trust it and fine-tune our sensitivity, look out for recurring experiences and receive fully.
There are times in life when you hit a crossroads and are uncertain of the future–ask the universe and it will send you a sign. “The truth is that the universe has been answering you all of your life, but you cannot receive the answers unless you are awake,” says Rhonda Byrne in her bestselling book The Secret. Being awake means watching for the signs.
I read somewhere, the universe can’t help us unless we allow it to do so. We need to trust it and fine-tune our sensitivity, look out for recurring experiences and receive fully. Over the years, I have come to believe that the universe responds through symbols or synchronous events. And, if it is really a sign, the universe will relentlessly try to convey the message.
With an urge to understand this enigma of sorts, I decided to explore what might lie in the belly of the universe. And here’s some of what I found:
One of the most common synchronous events is to think of someone and bump into them or hear from them. These events are often considered signs from the universe. According to the dictionary, synchronicity is the simultaneous occurrence of events which appear significantly related but have no discernible causal connection. It is said to be the divine intervention or the universe’s way of guiding you to the path you are destined to take.
It is said that the easier things fall into place, the closer we are to the universe. This larger force is constantly guiding us.
Animals as messengers
The sighting of a crow is said to be a bad omen, a flock of birds is a sign of travel and a butterfly is a sign from a loved one who has passed on. The appearance of any of these animals when you least expect, is certainly an attempt by the universe to convey a message. Animals are one of the most trusted messengers as they are closer to the universe. The Shamans, for instance, see animals as spirit guides. They believe their endeavours cannot be successful without guidance from the spirit world.
Pennies and similar findings
Find a penny, pick it up and all day long you will have good luck. Believers in the power of the universe say feathers and pennies found along your way indicate that the universe is looking out for you or that you are on the right path and things will be alright. Commonly, coins and feathers are considered signs of good luck, approval or reassurance.
Songs on the radio
Keep a question in your mind and you might get a sign in the form of sound. Many a time, people say a certain song playing on the radio spoke to them. Or a random movie they ended up watching was akin to their situation and gave them the answer they were looking for. This is one of the many examples of how the forces of the universe combine to protect you.
Have you noticed how sometimes a particular number is constantly on your radar? You wake up at 3:33 am every night? Or car number plates with the same number have been showing up on different routes. Or you tend to notice a specific pattern of digits in phone numbers. Through these signs the universe is trying to grab your attention. People have deciphered what a number could indicate. For example, one signifies oneness, two is related to relationships and stability, three puts the attention on the mind, body and soul.
Most of us have dreams when we sleep. They may emerge from specific events or reflect random occurrences. Psychology says, dreams are visual imagery from our unconscious mind. Through the unconscious mind, the universe tries to communicate with us.
It is said that the easier things fall into place, the closer we are to the universe. This larger force is constantly guiding us. However, it makes you wonder, if a penny and a feather are signs from the universe, is everything we do guided by the universe? Has every person we cross roads with, every choice we ever made, every thought in our mind been influenced by this majestic force? Could it all be a domino effect initiated at a celestial level?
