Awakening the inner self

As the evening fell, someone lighted a lantern for the people to be able to see their path. A little later, a blind man came that way. He stumbled against the lantern and the lantern was knocked off but it made no difference to the blind man. Unmindful of the surroundings, he went his own way.

Of course the light comes from many sources like the lantern, lamps, electric bulbs and tubes, the sun and the moon. But are we sure that one would be able to see with these sources of light? If one does not have the light in his/her eyes, all these sources would be futile. Inner light is essential to be able to see and understand the external things and the world.

Mere arguments to prove others wrong or to score points of wisdom lead us nowhere.

Without the awakening of our inner conscience, all doctrines of spiritual knowledge and awakening would be futile. Perhaps, this is one of the major reasons of human degradation despite the wise guidance and suggestions in the scriptures of most religions and the wise sayings of the great men, saints and philosophers. Mere arguments to prove others wrong or to score points of wisdom lead us nowhere.

What we urgently need is the ‘seeing eye’, i.e. the awakened conscience and the right perceptions of things around. Let the soul be awakened to realise its true nature and worth. Unless man realises his true self and the position that he is placed in, he cannot gain any light on the happenings and situations that keep changing every moment in this life. Only with an awakened self, one can understand soul’s relationship with the Supreme Soul and, also, its role in this drama of life.
