Spiritual leader Maulana Wahiduddin Khan shines light on the importance of humility.

Maulana Wahiduddin Khan, born in 1925, is an Islamic spiritual scholar.

He has authored over 200 books on Islam, prophetic wisdom, spirituality and peaceful coexistence in a multi-ethnic society. His recent book The Prophet of Peace illuminates the Islamic view on modernity, secularism, democracy and freedom of speech.

Maulana's English translation of the Quran was reviewed thus by The Times of India: “Simple and direct, the book reaches out to a large audience.”

To spread spiritual wisdom and peace, Maulana founded Centre for Peace and Spirituality in 2001. His English monthly magazine Spirit of Islam enjoys a wide readership for discussion on contemporary issues related to Islam.

Internationally recognised for his contributions to world peace, he has received, among others, the Demiurgus Peace International Award. A recent book by Georgetown University, The 500 Most Influential Muslims of 2009 has named him ‘Islam’s Spiritual Ambassador to the world’.

It so happened that the death of Prophet’s son, Abraham, coincided with a solar eclipse. From ancient times, in Arabia, people believed that solar and lunar eclipses were caused by the death of some important person. Thus, the people of Madinah began attributing the eclipse to the death of the Prophet’s son. This caused the Prophet immense displeasure, for it contradicted a human being’s humble position in the world. He collected the people and addressed them as follows: “Eclipses of the sun and moon are not due to the death of any human being; they are just two of God’s signs. When you see an eclipse, then you should pray to God.”
