Supreme Being pervades all

Know Thyself: Supreme Being pervades all

"The Supreme Being pervades everything that grows, everything that lives, all that is here, there, anywhere, whatever was and whatever will be." - Sri M

Angusthamatrah purusontaratma

Hrda manisa manasabhiklrpto

Ya etad viduramrtaste bhavanti ||

He is a person who assumes the measure of a thumb to dwell within creatures. He is the inner self, ever dwelling in the heart of men. He is the Lord of knowledge, framed by the heart and the mind. One who knows this becomes immortal.

Angusthamatrah puruso’ntaratma

He is of the measure of a thumb, but is the inner self of all beings.

Sada jananam hrdaye sannivistah

Ever dwelling, ever dwelling in the heart of man! They who know this,that the Lord, the Supreme Lord resides in the heart, in this shape, in the measure of a thumb, they become immortal.

In the next verse, it says:

Sahasraksah sahasrapat |

Sa bhumim visvato vrtva atyatisthaddasangulam ||

Meaning: And, this little person, who is in the heart, in the measure of a thumb, is also the person who has a thousand heads, a thousand eyes, a thousand feet enveloping the earth on all sides. He stands beyond ten fingers breadth. How poetic is the description!

The Supreme Being pervades everything that grows, everything that lives, all that is here, there, anywhere, whatever was and whatever will be.

That little spark which is in the heart of man, that little spark that is the Supreme Being, ever dwelling in the heart, and knowing whom men become immortal, is all pervading, has a thousand heads, a thousand eyes, a thousand feet. He is greater even than the earth; for He surrounds the earth on all sides and stands ten fingers breadth beyond the whole world.

Purusa evedam sarvam yad bhutam yaccha bhavyam |

utamrtatvasyesano yadannenatirohati ||

Now, that person is truly this whole world. Whatever has been and whatever will be, He is also the Lord of immortality and whatever grows up by food. This means the Supreme Being pervades everything that grows, everything that lives, all that is here, there, anywhere, whatever was and whatever will be.

Then, it says:

Sarvatah panipadam tat sarvato ksisiromukham |

Sarvatah srutimalloke sarvamavrtya tisthati ||

Reflecting the qualities of all the senses and yet devoid of all the senses, that Supreme Being is the Lord and ruler and the great refuge of all, pervading everything. With hands, feet, eyes, head, mouth, and ears everywhere, He pervades all and everything.
