Initiated in 2014 by Jeremy Burge, the founder of Emojipedia, World Emoji Day celebrates the power of the emojis or expressive emoticons the world over. Emojipedia is the first ever comprehensive online encyclopaedia of emojis. Before World Emoji Day 2023, the ‘melting face’ emoji and the ‘holding back tears’ emoji emerged as the two finalists for emoji for the year 2022, with the latter winning the competition.
