god my child

God, my child

"How this relationship with the Supreme Soul actually works and what is its outcome are the main questions that have occupied my mind in various different forms and with many other related issues." - Dadi Janki

For quite some time, I have been thinking of the possibility and practicability of establishing and maintaining all my social relations with the Supreme Soul. The scriptures also consider Him our father, mother, teacher, friend, guide, preceptor etc. How this relationship actually works and what is its outcome are the main questions that have occupied my mind in various different forms and with many other related issues.

So in such a mood, the other day while sitting in meditation I asked Him whether He could be my child. Prompt came the reply, “Why not? But are you prepared to take me as your son?”

“Is there any hitch?” I asked.

“There is no hitch whatsoever at least from my side. But how are you going to nurture me?” God asked.

“It should not be difficult these days, when we have plenty of money and a lot many options of schooling.”

“That’s all right, but what aim and ideals shall you give me to attain in my life as your son? Even before that what are the sanskaars that I shall receive from you or my adopted family?”

“How can I ask my child to be and to become, what I have not even attempted consciously and seriously?”

I turned and looked inside me. Of course, I don’t have any habits or addictions of drugs, smoking, drinking and other such social prohibitions, but still what shall I recommend to Him as a child?

Before I could make up my mind, He went on to say, “I should receive from you something, some ideal that should make me proud of having you as my parent. It should be something, which I make efforts to achieve and present to you, so that you feel happy and contented with me as your child. You know I mean to say that I should have a role model to emulate.”

Of course none of the five vices of lust, anger, ego, greed and attachment dominate in my behavior. Though I may not completely be rid of them, yet they are the negative qualities which at the most one needs to avoid. But what positive virtues and qualities can I recommend and inculcate in my exceptional child? Wouldn’t I like Him to have truthfulness, honesty, tolerance, discernment, patience, dedication and many other divine virtues and values? But are they the dominating features of my character? How can I ask my child to be and to become, what I have not even attempted consciously and seriously?

Since that day of this conversation with God, I daily find Him smiling and looking at me, perhaps waiting for His answer and eagerly asking “When shall you have me as your child?”

What should I tell Him? What do you say?
