How to be an ideal citizen

Dadi Janki observes, "How easy and simple it is to gain true happiness and peace for ourselves in our society, where we find almost everyone grumbling and grudging."

Man has always been in search of a perfect or, at least, an ideal and acceptable personality. He often tries to visualise the features and characteristics that would help make one such character. People try to recount the virtues like love, peace, tolerance, cheerfulness, cordiality, cooperation, intelligence, efficiency, punctuality etc  that would make one an ideal person. But when one comes to the ground reality, one is disappointed as not even a few of these virtues are found in majority of people around us. Thus we find it easy to conclude that ideal people are practically non-existent in our society.

But if we think positive and practical, we find that being an ideal, at least in the social sense of the term, is not as difficult as we presume. One should only be willing to change and improve. Let us ask ourselves, “Is it really that difficult to be an obedient member of a family and an obedient citizen?”

Faithful is one who knows his commitment of being a human being, respecting others and being above the animal instincts and free of all such emotions.

Who does not like discipline and system, be it in the family or out in the society? Moreover, the idea of obedience implies the characteristics of being honest, i.e. no cheating, no deceiving, no telling lies and no shirking one’s duties. Again, if one is honest, shall he or she not be faithful? Faithful is one who knows his commitment of being a human being, respecting others and being above the animal instincts and free of all such emotions.

In simple words, just being sincerely obedient and humble will make one the ideal member, an ideal citizen, an ideal employee, an ideal employer and, above all, an ideal asset of the human civilisation. Let us try for some time and find the results with our own experience. How easy and simple it is to gain true happiness and peace for ourselves in our society, where we find almost everyone grumbling and grudging.

It is not platonic, it really is of our own life and world.
