When things are meant to be

“Can I ask you something?”, Sameer asked Zoey. “My parents are coming to town tomorrow. Would you like to meet them?”. The question took Zoey by surprise. It was totally unexpected at that moment.

Zoey and Sameer had been together for a while, but they were yet to announce their relationship to their parents. Meeting Sameer’s parents was indeed a big step for her.

That night, Zoey was confronted with thousands of questions running through her mind. Is it too soon to meet his family? Am I doing the right thing?

But then, her thoughts drifted to Sameer. He cheers me up whenever I’m upset. He notices the little things that matter to me. These affirmations put all her worries to bed. She was ready.

The next morning, as Sameer was getting ready to leave the house, he got a call from Zoey. She sounded distressed. “Sam, my car is not starting, I don’t think I will be able to make it to the airport,” she said.

Zoey didn’t want Sameer to wait for her. She knew if he did, he would not reach the airport on time to receive his parents. “Please take a cab. I don’t know if I can make it on time.”

Without a second thought, Sameer booked a cab and reached Zoey’s house. He saw her standing next to a mechanic who was fixing her car. Seeing her worried, he rushed towards her, and taking her hand, assured her they still had time.

Zoey was overwhelmed by his gesture.

Delayed by almost an hour, they rushed to the airport, ready to apologise to Sameer’s parents. But on that day, fate was on their side. They came to know that the flight on which Sameer’s parents were arriving had been delayed by an hour. That day, Zoey realised that when something was meant to be, it would find its way—at the right time, with the right person, and for the best reason.
