My friend chose a wildlife sanctuary for us to visit first. As we stepped into the Talley Valley Wildlife Sanctuary, we found ourselves surrounded by dense forests of bamboo, ferns and towering pine trees. It is undoubtedly the crown jewel of Ziro Valley. Located approximately 32 kilometres from Ziro town, this sanctuary is a haven for nature lovers and is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna.
Apart from its natural splendour, Talley Valley is also a cultural treasure trove. The Apatani tribe, known for its unique practices like nose plugging and sustainable agriculture, resides in nearby villages. We interacted with the friendly locals, explored their traditional lifestyles and also got an opportunity to sample authentic Apatani cuisine.
The best time to visit Ziro Valley in Arunachal Pradesh is during the spring and autumn seasons, from March to May and September to November when the weather is pleasant and the valley is in full bloom.
Ziro Valley can be reached by air via Lilabari Airport in Assam. From the airport, it’s a scenic drive to Ziro. You can also take a train to Naharlagun Railway Station and continue by road to Ziro.
