be what you are

Be what you are

"We try to justify every action and non-action and, thereby, we become unnatural and impulsive." - Dadi Janki

I often wonder whether people know why they do what they do. Man claims to be the most intelligent, most rational and resourceful creature on this globe of earth. But haven’t you heard him apologising for what he had said or done? You might have heard others saying or might have uttered these words yourself, “I actually did not mean to say that.” We have often been advised by the wise that we should be careful of what we say or what we do so that it does not harm anyone, at least not ourselves. But are we really cautious?

It may look odd, or even offensive, if I said that the animals also are not mindful of what they do, nor do they learn from their past mistakes and sufferings. Measuring with this yardstick, can we say that we human beings are better than those animals, not the stray or wild, but even the domesticated? The objective conclusions and answers may be painful. But why is it so? Have we not learnt from experience, our education, guidance etc?

We do certain things because our job, our nature, our relations and even our aspirations force us to behave in that particular manner.

No, it is not that. The problem with human beings is that they are human, social and cultured. Ironical, isn’t it? Yes. We try to justify every action and non-action and, thereby, we become unnatural and impulsive. We do certain things because our job, our nature, our relations and even our aspirations force us to behave in that particular manner. We have our own justifications, our own norms and our own philosophy. This all makes our life so complex that we find ourselves trapped in multiple layers of bondage.

If only man knew his true and real self. If only he knew of his being a soul and performing a given role in the costume of this body, which does not demand of him to wear so many masks. In his effort to improve he, tries to out-do the writer-director of this drama i.e. the Supreme Soul and thus spoils the whole show.

Shouldn’t we try to perform our natural self and enjoy the drama which aims to yield happiness and contentment to all?
