Sing the Name Divine - Dada JP Vaswani

Sing the Name Divine

Even though we are not pure, if we will but sing the Name of God, we shall be purified. - Dada JP Vaswani

The Name Divine is pure: it is the Purest of the pure. How may I, who am impure sing the Name which is so immaculate and clean? I am unclean and dirty: how may I sing this most pure Name of God? I try again and again, to keep my mind pure: yet, again and again, it gets soiled, it becomes unclean. How then may I sing the Name Divine?

There is a beautiful text in the Sukhmani, the great Sikh Scripture, which rolled out of the heart of Guru Arjan Dev. It says:

“Holy, holy, holy, is the

Name of God:

It purifies him

who meditates on it

With all the love of his mind

And soul!”

The Great Guru says that in itself, the Name of God is pure, and it, also, purifies those that sing it. In those words is a message of hope. The Guru tells us not to despair, nor be disheartened. Even though we are not pure, if we will but sing the Name of God, we shall be purified. Let us keep on singing the Name Divine and, one blessed day, we too, under the grace of God, shall become pure as the snow on the mountain-heights, pure as the water of the River Ganges.
