Five thousand year ago was the teaching given by Sri Krishna. And I think this teaching has its meaning and message for me and for you and for all the sons and daughters of the modern world.
In this transition-period in which we are living, there is a mood of despondency and, again, there is a mood of expectation. Civilisation lies broken and bleeding, and we are despondent. And not a few of us are looking for something new, something vital, for some new power, new inspiration, new manifestation that may re-energise, re-vitalise, re-organise society and civilisation.
The anti-God campaign is spreading from West to East. For much of the present-day religion does not stand the test of reason. And to this age that worships reason, the Bhagwad Gita comes with a great declaration: Be reflective. According to the teaching of Gita, the truly spiritual man is essentially reflective.
In the Gita, you are asked to think for yourself, to reflect, to meditate: and you are given a definite technique of meditation. Religion, according to the Gita is not in conflict with science. Religion is science. Religion is not a matter of books or hearsay. Religion is self-realisation.
The universe challenges you to tremendous tasks, to adventures and responsibilities. You must meet the challenge of the universe with courage.
