Life is full of Surprises

Life is full of surprises

Another hour passed by and Peter’s phone was still off. Worried sick, Judy frantically dropped him a few texts, hoping to receive a response.

It was 6 pm. Judy impatiently opened her laptop for her Skype date with Peter. This had become a routine affair for the love birds. In the last four months, they hadn’t missed even a single day without talking to each other.

That’s why Judy was shocked when Peter didn’t show up that day. He could be in the washroom or on a call with his parents, Judy wondered. An hour passed by and there was still no sign of Peter. Judy was concerned. She called his number but it was switched off. Leaning forward in her chair, while staring blankly at her phone screen, Judy desperately waited to hear back from him.

Another hour passed by and Peter’s phone was still off. Worried sick, Judy frantically dropped him a few texts, hoping to receive a response. The evening turned into night and Judy still had no idea about Peter’s whereabouts. It was 10.30 pm when Peter finally responded. “Can’t talk to you now. Later!” Peter’s message read. She didn’t expect that text after worrying about him for hours.

Judy was furious. She didn’t know what to say. He could have at least apologised? And here I was thinking that something went wrong. I think I gave him too much credit for being a considerate boyfriend, Judy’s thoughts were running wild.

She reminisced about the day when they had met for the first time at a friend’s birthday party. They had instantly connected. The two exchanged numbers and came very close to each other in a few days. Their bond was unbreakable. Even when she had to move to a different city for a new job, Peter had encouraged her not to miss the opportunity. Now, however, she wasn’t sure if any of that was true. Maybe I got carried away by my emotions, Judy pondered.

As she lied down and closed her eyes, she heard a knock on the door. “Pizza for you, ma’am.” She dragged her feet to the front door and opened it.

“Surprise!” Peter was on his knees with a bouquet in one hand and a ring in the other.

“I can’t stay away from you anymore. Will you marry me?” he asked Judy. Fighting her tears, she said, “You know I don’t like surprises. I was so worried.”

Peter was still on his knees, smiling as if he knew what her next words will be.

“Yes!” she smiled. And Peter’s smile grew even wider.
